Summary

The soil type around my hometown is classified "Alluvial land, wet".  I used the area of Houston County in the search criteria because Kathleen is in between Houston County and Warner Robins.

General Description

The specific name of this soil is Orangeburg loamy fine sand.  The soil is 100% Orangeburg soil.  It has 2-5% slopes, so it is generally smooth and a little bit rocky.  The soil is eroded.  The materials that make up each layer of soil are described below.

Soil Horizons (Layers) and Their Material

The typical profile of Orangeburg loomy sand soil contains the following materials.  A 'profile' of soil would be if you cut out a piece of the soil like cutting out a piece of cake and seeing the cake's layers.  The profile consists of the following minerals found in each layer:

  • 0-18cm: Ap

  • 18-30cm: BA

  • 30-137cm: Bt1

  • 137-183cm: Bt2

General Interesting Facts about Alluvial Land, Wet Soil

  • This soil is not good for farming.

  • This soil covers a large extent of land.

  • It is largely acidic.

  •   The soil does not experience much frost.  The frost-free days range from 215-270 days.

  • Water and dirt (runoff) increases around sandy regions where there is a lot of rain.

  • Common crops that grow here include:
